Shirley Ruth Clites Mason, 79, passed away Wednesday, June 15, 2022 at her home with her family by her side.
Funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 2:00 pm at Burnette’s Chapel United Methodist Church with Reverend Donna Smith officiating. Burial will follow at Shining Light Baptist Church.
Shirley had been a long-time member of Shining Light Baptist Church and was always known as a faithful church attender no matter where she lived. She was known as “Grandma” while attending Life Community Church, was known to walk down the road to Good Hope Baptist Church which is close to where she lives, and most recently attended Burnetts Chapel United Methodist Church. Attending church has always been important to her as she knew it was an important part of living her Christian life so she could better influence others for the Lord. She was a strong and faithful Christian who always strove to show the love of Christ to others by always being a kind and giving person as she walked the walk of being a Christian. Tithing was always an important part of her Christian walk as well. She never met a stranger.
Most of her life she was a homemaker taking care of her family and home, but she also worked many years at Woolworth Department Store in downtown Greensboro, as well as several other jobs to help care for her family. She loved gospel music and working word-find puzzles. She was resourceful and very crafty. She also loved to draw and color pictures, and then send them to others. She made friends wherever she went and gave freely to all.
Shirley was preceded in death by her husband, Jack Lloyd Mason; parents, Ambrose and Ruth Clites; and brother, Gerald Clites.
She is survived by her daughter, Laurel Hawkins (Scott); daughter, April Walton (Troy); son, Joseph Mason (Tracy); grandchildren, Kara, Brandon, Kaelee, Brianna, Makenzie, Sam, Mariah, and Emma; brothers, John Clites, and Glen Scott, of Cumberland, MD; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends whom she loved.
The family will receive friends on Thursday from 1:00-2:00 pm at the church prior to the service.
