Steven Ralph Wood

Steven Ralph Wood (Woody or Steve-O), 48, passed away in the arms of his loving wife on September 23, 2021, after a 7 ½ week courageous battle with Covid-19.  Steve was born on August 22, 1973, in Greensboro, NC to Grace Eugenia Ward and Joel Wood.

Steve was employed with Averitt Express for 29 years and was the Operations Manager.  He also worked part time at Starbucks at the Palladium where he also left his legacy of kindness, generosity and loving spirit.  His loving heart left a beacon of light for all the lives he touched.  He had the most infectious smile and could capture your heart with a simple hello.  He could always make you laugh with his quick witty personality.  He never met a stranger and was always willing to help anyone. 

He enjoyed Jeepin’ (#jeeplife) in his Jeep, Toucan.  He loved wheelin’ and being part of the Jeep community.  One of his favorite destinations to travel was to the beach.  He also had a love for cooking and enjoyed making pecan pies (wink wink).

Steve was preceded in death by his grandparents and his brother, Christopher Reid Wood.

Steve is survived by his wife who was his soul mate and forever “Sunshine”, Kimberlee Hicks Wood; his two fur babies, Lexi and Davis of the home; stepdaughter, Olivia Simpson; brother-in-law, Kelly Hicks and wife Kyeisha; mother, Grace Styles, two sons, and two stepbrothers.

The family will receive visitors at their home from 2pm-7pm daily through Sunday, October 3, 2021. Funeral arrangements are entrusted to George Brothers Funeral Service, 803 Greenhaven Drive, Greensboro, NC 27406.  Visitation will take place on Saturday, October 2, 2021, from 1:00 pm – 2:00 pm.  A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 2:00 pm.  There will be no graveside service.  In lieu of flowers, please feel free to bring a personal note or card sharing a favorite memory of Steve.

The family would like to extend heartfelt love and gratitude for the special nurses (Ashleigh, Mitchell, Shae and Kara) and doctors (Dr. Pete Babcock, Dr. Brandi Ollis, Dr. Murali Ramaswamy, Dr. Adewale Olalere, and Dr. Daniel Smith) at Wesley Long and Moses Cone Hospitals.  The compassion and love extended to his wife will always be remembered.
