Thomas "Tom" Hucks Obituary

Thomas Earl Hucks, age 73, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026.

Services are being held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, June 13, 2026 to celebrate Tom’s life at the Gate City Church of God, 200 State St. in Greensboro with Reverend Dr. Doug Hopkins, Bishop Denis Lear, and Bishop Dan Carter officiating.  The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 pm at the church prior to the service.

Born on August 29, 1952, Tom was the son of Isaac Benjamin Hucks and Ruth Estelle Anderson Hucks. He was preceded in death by his parents and two siblings: Betty-Jean "Bug" Ferguson and Jackie Arnold Hucks. He is survived by one brother Isaac Benjamin "Pete" Hucks and two sisters, Sandra Kay Turner and Cynthia Gail "Tootie" Lear.

Tom is also survived by his beloved wife, Donna Hucks, whom he met shortly after beginning his career with AMP in 1972. Their friendship blossomed quickly into a lifelong love, and they were married in 1974, sharing more than fifty-two years together.

He was a devoted father to Timothy Alan Hucks and Dawn Michele Hopkins (Doug Hopkins). He was a proud grandfather to Hannah Noel Buchholz (Nehemiah Buchholz) and Isaac Douglas Hopkins.

Tom retired in 2017 after an extraordinary 45-year career as a Tool & Die Machinist with Tyco Electronics, formerly AMP. Known for his strong work ethic and mechanical skill, he took great pride in his craft and the relationships he built throughout his career.

Outside of work, Tom enjoyed collecting, gardening, and home canning. When there was nothing else demanding his attention, he could usually be found in his workshop "piddling," as his family affectionately called it. Whether repairing an engine, changing a tire, replacing a starter, or helping with an oil change, Tom was always willing to lend a hand. If someone needed help, he showed up.

For many years, the phrase, "If the church doors are open, I'll be there," perfectly described Tom. In fact, he was often the one unlocking those doors before everyone arrived and locking them after everyone had gone home. He faithfully served in several Church of God congregations, remained active in worship and fellowship until his health no longer allowed him to travel beyond his home and medical appointments.

Tom loved being home. He found contentment in a hard day's work, an evening spent tinkering in his building. More than anything, Tom will be remembered for his faithfulness—to his family, his church, his work, and his friends. He lived a life marked by quiet service, dependability, laughter and contentment. His presence, steady hands, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

"Well done, good and faithful servant." — Matthew 25:23
