Vivian Elizabeth (McDaniel) Welch

Vivian Elizabeth McDaniel Welch, 88, was called home on Saturday, January 15th. Her work on earth was done. She has gone to her eternal home to hear the words she longed to hear "Well done my good and faithful servant; enter into the joy of your Lord!"

Vivian (Mama, Mommy, Mom, Grandma, GG, Gummaw, Mrs. Vivian, Sister Vivian, Aunt Vivian, Vivi) graduated from Rankin High School in 1951, retired from Sears Roebuck & Co in December 1999 while continuing to serve as a faithful member of True Light Baptist Church in Greensboro - the church she helped start almost 65 years ago with her late husband Rev. Bobby Welch Jr.  She was the quintessential "Pastor's Wife", working selflessly to help the hurting, encourage the weak, feed the hungry, and spread the truth of the Gospel of Christ.  She accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior as a young girl at 16th Street Baptist Church, and for the rest of her life she loved and served Christ and people everywhere she went. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Bobby Welch, Jr.; daughter, Cheryl Welch; parents, Eddie and Emma Payne McDaniel; brothers, Lawrence, Rondall, and Jimmy McDaniel; sisters, Ellen Alcon and Clara Wyrick.

She is survived by children, Wayne Welch (wife, Katrina), Steve Welch (wife, Penny), Angel Tannehill (husband, John), Jeff Welch (wife, Rachel) and Dawn Christley; sister, Kathy Blackburn; 13 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

The family extends a deep and loving thank you to the staff at Spring Arbor of Greensboro who have been used by God as "earthly angels" ministering to Mom and our family. We also thank the staff of Hospice AuthoraCare Collective for their kindness, care and compassion. And we sincerely thank our friends and family members for their support and love through this journey.

The family will receive friends from 12:00-1:00 p.m, Thursday, January 20 at True Light Baptist Church, with the funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m.. Graveside service immediately following at Guilford Memorial Park.
