Warnelia (Whitlow) Lewis

Warnelia Lewis, 90, went home to her Lord and Savior on Thursday, January 23, 2025.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at George Brothers Funeral Service.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.  A graveside service will be held at 3 pm at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church Cemetery in Vernon Hill, Virginia.

Mrs. Lewis was born September 24, 1934 in Vernon Hill, VA to the late John Henry Whitlow and Daisy Hawker Whitlow.  She was a member of Rehobeth Baptist Church and retired from Boren Brick after 35 years of service.

Granny, as she was affectionately called by her family, lived a life of deep faith. She was a devoted member of Rehobeth Baptist Church, attending services every week, including virtually when she could not physically be present. Her devotion to Jesus kept her grounded through all of life’s ups and downs.

She was happiest when she was with her family. She liked to remember those summers when her grandchildren would all gather at her house to visit, play, and make memories that they will cherish for a lifetime. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paige Lewis; son, Jesse Lewis; and sisters, Bertha Denny and Gloria Bledsoe.

Mrs. Lewis is survived by her son, Jeffrey Lewis (Victoria); daughter-in-law, Lynne; four grandchildren, Eric, Brittany (Micah), Ashley (Shaun), and Justin (Stephanie); six great-grandchildren, Cailynn, Madelynn, Reagan, Benjamin, Aaron and Piper.

Warnelia’s family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the staff, nurses, and providers at Moses Cone Health Hospital for their compassionate care provided to her in her final days. Additionally, they would like to thank her neighbors for all their assistance in keeping a watchful eye over her when family couldn’t be physically present. The peace of mind knowing she had people close who cared for her was invaluable.
