Wendy Ellen (Atkins) Elks

Wendy Ellen Atkins Elks, 64, died peacefully at home on May 8, 2025. She leaves the world dimmer with her laugh no longer in it.

Born in North Carolina on September 25th, 1960, Wendy came into the world red-headed, bold, bright, and unapologetically herself. The fourth of eight children born to Eleanor and Jack Atkins, she was an original.

Wendy was many things, but her most loved role was that of mom. She had four children by the age of 23. The early years consisted of family cookouts, long conversations and prayers with her sisters, and cheering from the sidelines at her children's sporting events.

Wendy's life was a reflection of Christ's love, she was a woman who generously gave of her time, knowledge, and encouragement.

With a style all her own, Wendy sported big hair and bright colors. She lit up every room she entered—not just with her outfits, but with her bold personality and legendary laugh. 

Wendy was always up for an adventure. We were lucky to share family trips to the beach, ziplining, hiking, and a Christmas with matching pajamas. She made birthdays, holidays and even Tuesdays more interesting.

She will be deeply missed by her Children, Michael Elks (Hermene), Amber Kasbe, Lucas Elks (Kimberly), and Jordan Elks (Jennie); her Grandchildren, all future celebrities if Wendy had anything to say about it: Asha, Eden, Bryce, Ethan, Katlyn, Aiyana, and Madison; her siblings, Diane Godfrey, Roland Atkins, Trish Hinshaw, Wanda Jackson, Cheryl Ryals, and Pam Mimms.

She now reunites with her beloved parents, Eleanor and Jack Atkins; her brother, Barry Atkins, and her friend, Ronald Cox.

A service honoring Wendy’s life will be held on
Friday, May 16, 2025, at Hope Church (Pleasant Grove)
3812 Groometown Road, Greensboro, NC 27406.
Friends will be received from 2:00 – 3:00 PM, with the celebration beginning at 3:00 PM. 

In lieu of flowers, wear something bold. Say something honest. Hug someone too long.
