Rev. Dr. William “Bill” Angus Mahoney, Jr., born in Kings Tree, SC on December 13, 1941, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 20, 2024 in Danville, VA. He was the son of the late William Angus Mahoney, Sr. and Annie Louise McKinnon Mahoney.
He grew up in Whiteville, NC. He went to Whiteville High School where he was the drum major for the WHS marching band. He graduated from Whiteville High School in 1960. At NC State University he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. He graduated from NC State University with a Bachelor of Science in 1965 where he majored in horticulture. He became a born again Christian and his faith in the Lord lead him to become pastor of “Church of Our Redeemer” in 1975 in Greensboro, NC. He attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, NC where he received his Master of Divinity in 1985. He continued his education at Jacksonville Theological Seminary receiving a Doctorate of Theology in 1993. He continued to receive a Doctor of Philosophy in Christian Psychology in 1995. He was ordained by the International Church of Foursquare Gospel Church. He served 25 years. He was pastor of Word of Life Foursquare Church in Greensboro. He retired then returned to pastor “Spirit Life Church of the Triad.” He devoted his life to preach the gospel and lead people to Jesus Christ for 49 years.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William Angus Mahoney, Sr. and Annie Louise McKinnon Mahoney.
He is survived by his wife of 60-years, Diane Herring Mahoney, of the home; daughter, Karen
Mahoney Horne and husband Gary of Whiteville; son William Angus Mahoney, III and his wife Donna of Greensboro; son Matthew H. Mahoney and wife Chandra of Greensboro; grandchildren Gary Horne, Jr., Casey Horne Baxley (Ryan), Kevin Horne (Lauren), Nickolas Horne, Angela Sanders, Alan Wilson (Renae), Charli Mahoney, and Mason Mahoney; great-grandchildren Addie, Kaylee, Grace, Faith, Shaun, Alana, Chloe, and Liam; sister Linda Mahoney Jones (husband Larry Jones, recently deceased) of Goldsboro. Also surviving are numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and special friends who loved him dearly.
Celebration of Life service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, July 27, 2024 at George Brothers Funeral Service. The family will receive friends from 1:00pm-2:00pm prior to the service at the funeral home.
