Zachary Rigg Obituary

Zachary Scott Rigg, of Greensboro, North Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, May 14, 2025. He was born on February 12, 1989, to Benjamin Scott Rigg and Deborah Lynn Rigg.

A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, May 23, 2025 from 7:00-9:00 pm at George Brothers Funeral Service.

Zachary is lovingly remembered by his parents; his sister, Melinda Gurkin (Justin Taylor); his beloved children, Jay, McKenzie and Kaylee (step-daughter); his grandmother, Linda Williams; his nephew, Joseph Gurkin; his niece, Ava Smith; and many cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Zack, as he was affectionately known, was a kind and gentle soul whose warmth and sincerity drew people to him. He attended Southeast High School in Forest Oaks, NC, and throughout his life, he built lasting friendships rooted in his genuine character and spirit.

Above all, Zack was a devoted father. His children, Jay, McKenzie and Kaylee, were the center of his world, his greatest joy and proudest accomplishment. He approached fatherhood with patience, love, and pride - teaching Jay with love and care and cherishing every moment with McKenzie, who was truly the apple of his eye and Kaylee who he loved as his own. His love for them was unwavering, and he never missed an opportunity to show how much they meant to him. They held a special place in his heart - their bond was unbreakable, and his love for them was the guiding force in his life.

Zack shared a special bond with his sister, Melinda. As children, they were inseparable - partners in mischief and laughter. As adults, their relationship blossomed into a deep friendship filled with mutual respect, support, and endless inside jokes. They leaned on each other through life’s challenges and celebrated each other’s triumphs. Zack was a proud uncle to Joseph and Ava, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

He also held a deep admiration for his parents. Zack mirrored his father’s calm and easygoing nature and looked up to him as a role model. His mother, Deborah, was his steadfast supporter and his rock through life’s highs and lows. The love and respect he had for his parents was profound and enduring.

As we remember Zack, we hold close the memories of his infectious laugh, his gentle soul, and the love he so freely gave. Though our hearts are heavy with grief, we find peace in knowing that he is now surrounded by light and love.

Until we meet again—beloved son, father, brother, uncle, and friend—you will live on in our hearts and memories every day.
