Owen Meredith Bass, 94, of Greensboro died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at his residence.

Funeral services will be held Monday, February 1, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Rehobeth United Methodist Church with Pastor Paul McClure and Pastor Bruce Hobson officiating. Interment will follow in Guilford Memorial Park.

Owen was born September 12, 1921 in Delia VA to James C. and Anna W. Bass.  He moved to Semora, NC at the age of two where he spent his teenage life before coming to Greensboro in 1940.  He attended Archibald Murphey High School, and McClung Business School, and worked for Pilot Brokerage Company until he entered service.  He served in the US Air Corps in the southwest Pacific for 40 months.  He served as Base Sgt. Major for Tontouta Air Base.  He retired from First Union National Bank in 1986. He was a member of Rehobeth United Methodist Church, where he served in many capacities.  He was church treasurer, and treasurer for Guilford County 4-H Development Fund, and treasurer for Sumner School PTA.  He was a former Civitan, Scout Master and Explorer Advisor for Troop 320.  He was President of Pinecroft Sedgefield Fire District for 34 years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rebecca Short Bass; father, mother, and brothers, Eugene, Richard, Frank Bass; and sister, Ruth Bass Christian.

Owen is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Carl and Linda Bass; daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Mike Shepherd; sister, Doris B. Booth; grandchildren, David Frederick Owen Bass (Tiffany), Daniel Lee Bass (Mikel), Jonathan Charles  Bass (Margot), Jason Michael Shepherd (Heather), and Kelley Shepherd Triplett (Benjamin); great-grandchildren, Mikah, Josiah, Aleyna, Lexi, Kenna, Madison, Ashlyn, Audrey, Salem, Charlie, Lucy, Henry, Kate and Nathan.

The family wishes to express appreciation for the loving care given to Mom and Dad by their caregivers, Diane Young, Linda Dimery and Delia Locklear.

The family will receive friends from 12:30 to 2p.m. in the church parlor prior to the service.
