Bette Joyce (Smith) Johnson

Mrs. Bette Joyce Smith Johnson, 84, went home to be with her Lord Friday, October 2, 2015 at Moses Cone Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 11, 2015 at 3:00 p.m. at Southside Baptist Church with Rev. Patrick Fuller officiating. Interment will be at a later date in Arlington National Cemetery.

Mrs. Johnson was born June 21, 1931 in Guilford County to the late Harvey and Ada Smith.

Bette was a faithful member of Southside Baptist Church. She was a former interior designer, owning her own business in Hendersonville, NC, called “The Carriage House”.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Walter “Walt” Johnson, a son, Larry Morgan, and 3 brothers, Ralph, Lonnie Ray and Doug Smith.

Survivors include her children, Lynda Morgan of S. Hadley, MA, Steven J. Morgan (Lynn) of Greensboro and Michael A. Morgan (Linda) of Greenville, SC; a step son, David Johnson (Judy) of North Las Vegas, NV; 5 grandchildren, Steven J. Morgan, Jr., Amy Morgan, Alexandria Morgan, Michael A. Morgan, Jr. and Katherine Morgan; 2 step grandsons, Heath and Joseph Johnson; and a sister, Maxine Joan Smith.

The family will receive from 2-3 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Southside Baptist Church Building Fund, 1001 Greenhaven Drive, Greensboro, NC 27406.
