Mary Matkins Newell

Mary Matkins Newell, 99, died Monday, November 23, 2015 at Hospice Home of Alamance and will be spending Thanksgiving in the presence of the Lord.

A graveside service will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, 2015 at Peace Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gibsonville, NC.

Mrs. Newell was born April 19, 1916 in Rockingham County, NC.  She was a homemaker, and loved by people.

She is survived by her sons, David G. "Babe" Newell (Judith), and Troy Newell, Sr. (Danease); daughter, Ann Bowers (Ronnie); brother, Joe Matkins; sister, Anna Martin; six grandchildren; and ten great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Newell was preceded in death by her husband, Willis Newell; son, John Newell; sisters, Inez Nall and Margaret Shearin; and brother, Calvin Matkins.

In lieu of flowers and food, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell, 914 Chapel Hill Road, Burlington NC 27215; or Peace Lutheran Church, 6015 Frieden Church Road, Gibsonville, NC 27249.
