A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2015 at Baynes Baptist Church, with the Reverend Carl Parsons officiating. Visitation will follow the service.
Born January 2, 1922, he was the second child and oldest son of the late George Washington Morgan and Victoria Cook Morgan. He was the grandson of the late Pickney Kerr and Virginia Morgan.
James Daulton grew up on his father’s farm in Caswell County learning the virtues of hard work in the tobacco fields and running grist and saw mills. A product of the depression, he could fix and make do with what he had. He was a man’s man.
He left Caswell County in the late 1930’s for work in the automobile factories in Detroit and then served in the US Navy in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. After the war, James returned to Caswell County to farm and work with the Caswell County School Maintenance Department, from which he retired.
He was a quiet and unassuming man of few words and will be deeply missed by his family and many loving neighbors all, of whom enjoyed the bounty of his large garden.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Sarah; brothers, George W. Morgan, Jr. (June), William L. Morgan, Basil Kerr Morgan; and sister, Irene Hicks.
He is survived by nephews, Otha L. Hicks, Dan K. Hicks, Jeff T. Morgan, J. Kyle Morgan; and niece, Vickie Nance.
A special thanks goes to the staff of Clapp’s Nursing Center in Pleasant Garden, NC, who lovingly cared for him during the past year and a half of his declining health.
